Don't skip out on your Fireplaces, even after 1 year fireplaces can get completley filled with the flammable remminents. We at Dixie Gas Lines Plus, LLC have found the one fireplace cleaning and repair company in St.George that we have full and complete trust in. We have had this company out on numerous occasions for new installs, repairs, and just plain ol fire place cleanings, for our customers! We have had excellent reviews for this company, and would highly recommend them!

I personally have gone out to jobs that Southern Utah Fireplaces, have been working on, and I have discovered the fireplace completley torn down! Yep, top to bottom! I asked shaun (the owner) what was wrong with the fireplace unit, and he told me he was just doing a cleaning call ! Holy cow! After learning of why this needs to be done, I have not once referred any other fire place repair company! This guy knows what he is doing! For all your fireplace, and service needs be sure to visit his web site at ...   southernutahfireplaces.com

Your Pool contractor running his own gas....

Be very careful of this!! There are a couple contractors down here in good ol St.George that are trying to run their own gas lines...basically trying to skim on costs! They will tell you they have their RMGA Certificate which you would assume they are licensed to do gas work!! NOT TRUE!! This certificate is for employees of employers to show they have some knowledge of gas to protect you, the homeowner!! It is now working against you! These people you think are licensed to do gas, will be installing your gas lines after taking a 3 hour , 100 question exam and almost all have no prior experience with gas!!
WE ARE REPAIRING ALL THEIR LOUSY INSTALLS!! This is costing hundreds sometimes even thousands!! Please be sure you have a gas contractor, not your pool contractor installing and hooking up your gas lines!! The money or life you save could be your own!!
You have been warned!!
SERIOUSLY, Even if you do not end up using Dixie Gas Lines Plus LLC, Please be sure your pool contractor is not installing these lines!! They know everything about pools, but nothing about gas!! It will bite you down the road!!

Landscapers doing gas pipe... BEWARE!!!

St.George Utah Fire pits and Gas Lines!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!!
We have had 5 more calls so far this week to repair gas lines that were installed incorrectly!! Be CAREFUL who you choose to run your gas!!! All of these lines were installed by landscape companies that are NOT licensed to run gas pipe!! These repairs were very expensive due to the fact that 4 of them were undersized!! Don't get sucked in!! Make sure you have a licensed GAS contractor installing your fire pits and fuel lines!! The money you save could be extreme!! If you see or know of any unlawful contractor practices, PLEASE report it to DOPL (Department of Professional Licensing) @ 801-530-6630 or Email at DOPL@ utah.gov

Wanna Look Hot In Your New Pool...

Don't get burned by an unlicensed contractor!
* Make sure a licensed gas professional installs your gas piping.
Improperly installed gas piping can result in major equipment damage!

*Is the main gas line from your street to your home, sized OK to work with your new pool heater?
This is a common and very expensive problem!

*Most pool contractors are not licensed nor knowledgeable to install or EVEN hook up gas piping!

* Be sure to ask your pool contractor who their LICENSED, gas piping installer is!

*Your contractors licenses should ALWAYS be checked!!!! There is a link on the bottom of this blog to check your contractors licenses, to insure their license is active and current.

Adding A Pool? You MUST Know This About Your Gas Meter!

If you have or are thinking of getting a new pool installed you need to read this! If you are going to add a pool heater on to your homes existing gas meter 99% of the time, you are going to need to get your meter changed out by questar gas company! There are a couple of ways to do this to keep it cheaper for you but keep in mind that if you have a pool built and the contractor just throws a heater in there with out having questar gas come to your home, It is probably installed wrong! Please do your research on this for it is causing home owners thousands. It is an unforeseen problem that even your pool builder has no idea the problems that he has created for you!
Underground gas lines should only be installed by a licensed Plumber OR H.V.A.C contractor!
GAS LINES NEED TO BE INSTALLED CORRECTLY.
Some problems we've seen have been..
- Poor flame height, due to lack of gas.The heater may seem to be operating ok to you but inside is where the problems are. This will cause huge amounts of carbon to build up on the flame sensor and you will be calling every year for a new flame sensor to be installed because your heater either will not stay lit or will repeatable shut off and try to fire again! We had one call last year that the homeowners had just an in ground hot tub. The meter was not changed out and they said the tub took between 14-16 hrs to get it up to temp. This was caused by lack of fuel. This will result in the heater burning a very small flame for a very long time and killing your hard earned pay checks when your gas bill arrives. Also make note that we have found that unless you are changing the gas pressure on your home, 80% of the time, your new gas line didn't even get inspected! DEMAND an inspection on any underground gas line.!

-Another huge problem we are finding is many landscaping contractors who are installing gas are using short wand risers! These have been BANNED by Questar gas and are no longer allowed to be installed in the state of Utah unless certain guidelines with questar gas are met. In other words, If someone ran underground gas at your home or business, and you can see any of the yellow pipe that they installed after all is said and done, It is against code.

-Gas pipe buried with electrical. This is a big no no and any plumber or h.v.a.c contractor can tell you that, but pool contractors and landscapers won't! Why, because they don't know! They only know that it is a lot cheaper to do it themselves than to have a licensed contractor do it for them. It is a lot easier for them to just tie into your meter(Regardless of how much gas can pass through your meter) and call it good. Use caution with this!

-Fire pits. These little babies are popping up every where and we have installed hundreds. But some people are still installing them incorrectly to try and cut corners. If you have a Dante valve installed in your pit, Make sure it is in the side of your pit and not 2 or 3 feet away from your pit sitting face up! The Dante valve is a valve that has a shiny face on it and requires a key. Many are installed wrong! If they are installed in the flooring around your pit, you are probably going to have problems with it. The reason is dirt! Dirt gets down in these things and starts chewing away at the o ring that seals it.! Once it is gone , you have a gas leak and if it is concrete, well you have a major problem! Also inside the fire pits, the pipe should be ran in stainless steel! These things sit out in the weather all year and if you have black iron pipe in the pit and you have dirt around it, well your gonna have a leak! Dirt contains moisture and if it is sitting on the pipe, it will rust!

Just make sure you have done your homework with the gas part of your remodels or pools or whatever your project is.It could end up costing you!
If you are ever in doubt of any gas related problem or concerns please email us at dixiegaslinesplus@gmail.com Or call jeramy @ 435-229-9961

Why do You need to change Your gas meter..

This is a very common question We get all the time. When your home was very first built, or when you got natural gas to your home, the plumber or hvac contractor who installed the piping, installed it for the appliances that were there when the meter was set. The gas line is sized to accomadate the btu's that your home is said going to use. Then the inspection comes along, passes with flying colors and all is well! This is true until you decide you want to add a high gas consumption appliance. For example, on-demand-water heaters, swimming pool heaters, firepits, home power generators, and so forth. The meter on your home, is only designed to deliver enough fuel for what it was origanally signed up for. These pool heaters and other high demand appliances use almost as much natural gas fuel, as when running a regular mid sized home! The meter needs to be re-sized. Many pool contractors (who should not be touching the gas anyway) may try to hookup a large sized line from your heater to your meter, without even knowing if it is going to work efficiently. Even if you think "well my pool heater works just fine the way it is", chances are unless you had questar gas company check your meter when your pool heater was installed, It is installed incorrectly. If your pool heater was installed incorrectly or would just like us to come out and check it for you, please email us at dixiegaslinesplus@gmail.com

Why Use Dixie Gas Lines?

Why use Dixie Gas Lines?
Many pool builders and landscapers are trying to install their own gas pipe now and are ultimatley creating problems for you, the home owner. Sure we could come out and just throw some pipe in the ground, hook it up and call it good! And as far as you know, it is installed correctly. Not exactly. We have had many, many hours of training on gas pipe for all applications and it is a little more than just chucking in some pipe.
USE CAUTION if your Landscaper or pool builder is going to install your gas line! 80% of our most recent calls have been because the gas line was installed incorrectly.
common calls have been:
Pool heater not coming on
Pool heater runs and shut off, then runs and shuts off ect.
Noisy pool heater(High pitch whistle)
Constantly replacing flame sensors
Taking way too long to heat the pool or hot tub even.
Questar has red tagged them.
Improper regulators installed.
Leaks due to improper burial depth
Gas odors

Don't get burned by an unlicensed gas contractor. If you want it done right the first time, without repeat fuel problems and costy service calls,Then hire a Plumber or HVAC contractor to run your gas!****They have the experience and are the "ONLY ONES THAT HAVE HAD PROPER TRAINING TO INSTALL GAS PIPE!!!"****

Do your homework! You will more than likely need to change out your gas meter as well. Most pool heaters consume as much fuel as A single family house does alone!

Underground Gas Lines Depths and Codes

There are only a couple of occasions that iron pipe be used underground any more! Times are changing and things are getting better all the way around! polyethylene is the new and improved and is your best bet to a safe and reliable underground fuel line. The minimal burial depth should be no less than 18" from top of finished grade. This is also the same for iron pipe but rest assured that your poly pipe will not rust like the iron pipe will. It comes in all sizes and lengths and should be used for all applications. Fire pits, BBQ's, detaches garages, or pool heaters!
We have installed lines that are up to 300' from the meter with no problems at all running on 2 lbs of pressure. Questar will only increase your gas pressure if you meet their specific guidelines. One of which, you must consume OVER 701 Cubic Feet per Hour. This includes all of your existing appliances and also your new appliances, say like for a new pool. BE FOR WARNED! If you are building a pool in Utah, be sure to get a FREE pre-evaluation from questar gas company to let them check your meter and fuel line size from the main in the road to make sure you will be OK with fuel pressure and volume of natural gas. Make sure this is installed by a licensed PLUMBER OR HVAC CONTRACTOR! They are the only ones that are officially licensed to install underground gas pipe! An R.M.G.A certification is not a license to install gas pipe! We are fixing many of these that people think they know what they are doing and don't! Be sure your not had by this!
This underground fuel line must be buried 3' on a parallel of any electrical and may NOT be put in the same trench as electrical! There are certain cases of where the city official may approve it if it needs to be in the same trench. Water is OK to be in the same trench! If you will be coming up through concrete, you will need to sleeve the gas pipe from the concrete.
Also ,don't forget to install your tracer wire! International fuel code states that this wire be no less than 14 gauge and buried separate from the gas line with 2" of earth separating the two.
BE FOR YOU DIG ANY TRENCHES BE SURE TO CALL BLUE STAKES AT 1800-662-4111! This service is free and could save you hundreds of bucks! Be sure to call them 2 working days before you dig to give each utility company time to mark their lines!

Don't get burned by an unlicensed contractor!

Most pool contractors are not licensed to install gas pipe! Or electrical for that matter. And the contractors that are installing gas pipe, really have no idea on the problems they are creating for a customer after they have collected your hard earned money and moved on to their next pool. An R.M.G.A. or Rocky Mountain Gas Certification does not make your pool contractor a licensed gas contractor. You as the homeowner, need to make sure that your new 20K -100K swimming pool and heater are installed correctly.
Almost 99% of the time, if you are building a swimming pool and have added a pool heater,(even a small one) you are going to need to change your gas meter!.Think about it this way, the average size home of about 1500sf to 3000sf is built and gets a new meter installed by the gas company. The meter that they will install will be a meter that will accommodate only the appliances inside your house. Which by the way usually totals roughly 250 to 500 cubic feet per hour. Now you have decided you want to add a swimming pool to your home, with a pool heater that consumes as much gas as all the appliances your whole house does alone. This is where the problems begin! If, when you built your swimming pool, your gas meter was not changed out to a larger meter, your pool heater is probably burning incorrectly! Don't be alarmed! This is fixable in most cases!
Your new pool heater installed incorrectly will create problems for you! It's just a matter of time! Some problems you can see right away, and some you can't.
Low fuel pressure can cause your pool heater hours or even days of run time to get your temperature up even a few degrees! Extremely high gas fuel bills, repeat pilot light outages, carbon build up, very costly equipment damage, or ultimately bodily harm or death can also result if your pool heater is installed incorrectly. This is why you would want a licensed plumber or hvac contractor to install your gas piping. Call your local gas pipe specialist to have them check your system, usually for free. You can also call your local gas company and usually get a free evaluation to let you know if your pool heating system is installed up to par.
Be sure you know who you hire! Get many references and ask to see some of the work they've done! Check with your states Department of Professional Licensing! Do your homework! Oh and one other thing, Do not give them your final payment until you are completely satisfied with your finished construction project! There are many great builders out there but there are also just as many that will take your final payment and you will never see again! Sad but true, this economy thing is hitting everybody! A lien release may also be a good idea for when each of the subs are paid.

Gas piping St.George Utah, Firepits, Undergrounds, New construction, or any other gas appliances..

We install gas pipe for any need. Thinking of adding that BBQ gas line your home builder never installed during the building of your home? Maybe wanting to add some flare to your back yard with an outdoor fire pit? These upper end, back yard toys might not be as expensive as you think! In fact 90% of people that check around on fire pit construction are surprised to learn that they need not spend hundreds for a pre-built fire pit when it is alot cheaper to have the rock work built on their own! There are many cheap rock contractors all around southern Utah that can design and construct these for pennies on the dollar compared to the purchase of pre-built fire pits.

Swimming pool heaters*. We receive numerous calls on the repair of these due to the fact that they were never installed correctly to begin with. Let me put this in simpler terms. You hire a pool contractor to build your pool. They pull permits and the work begins. So far so good, right?

The pool is in, equipment is set. Next comes the hookups of electrical and gas. These are to be installed by only a licensed electrician, and a licensed plumber or Hvac contractor for the gas. There is one grey area on this. Any contractor in the state of Utah can take this little test through rocky mountain gas association that certifies a contractor to do gas work. WRONG. This is a two day class that any plumber or hvac contractor has to have in Utah. Not a license to for your pool builder to install gas pipe! I cannot express this enough. This problem is getting huge! Please call for more info on this 435-229-9961

Landscapers* Landscapers in southern Utah should not be installing gas pipe, at all, whatsoever!

Make sure you have a gas contractor with knowledge and experience doing your underground gas pipe work. It could be one of the most costly choices you ever make. Don't get burned by an unlicensed contractor. For any questions or concerns regarding this blog please contact me at 435-229-9961
